The official movie depicting the life of Steve Jobs got underway today in the historic Los Altos home garage where Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple.
The movie ‘jOBS’ stars Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs. That in itself is an interesting choice of lead role as Kutcher has just spent the past year playing dotcom billionaire Walden Schmidt in ‘Two and a Half Men’.
jOBS’ is the new movie from Executive Producer Mark Hulme and Five Star Feature Films.
Initial work on the movie began in August, 2011 with the approval of Steve Jobs. Jobs died in October 2011.
Director Joshua Michael Stern worked on ‘Swing Vote’ and ‘Neverwas’. Cinematographer Russell Carpenter was from ‘Titantic’.
The movie will be released in late 2012.
The official jOBS synopsis:
‘jOBS’ is the incredibly powerful and true story of the visionary who set out to change the world, and did.
The film chronicles Steve Jobs’ (ASHTON KUTCHER) transformation of character from the enthusiasm and self-discovery of his youth, to the personal demons that clouded his vision, and finally to the ultimate triumphs of his later life. Steve changed the way we see the world today through his relentless drive, passion, persistence, and the force of his will, and it is through these qualities that we draw inspiration from his life.
Dark, honest, and uncompromising, “JOBS” plunges into the depths of Steve Jobs’ character, uncovering his motivations, his gifts, his flaws, his failures, and his successes. An immensely private tale spanning four decades, “JOBS” is an intensely character-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is a personal tale.
A rousing narrative of Steve Jobs’ days, “JOBS” pulls no punches and does not speculate, only telling the candid account as seen through his eyes, emotions, and ingenuity. The life of Steve Jobs.
Sir Ridley Scott has a decision to make. It seems that every year, he's linked with an abundance of new projects, with this next directorial outing set to be The Counselor, based on Cormac McCarthy's book.
After that? Well, one of the possibilities that he's juggling is the planned new Blade Runner film, which he's been chatting a little about to The Daily Beast. He told the site that "I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist." That's all he's saying for the minute, though.
Producers Andrew A. Kosove acknowledged the tremendous fan base for Blade Runner, and the challenges in coming up with an original story.
"The risk is not just getting a movie made but coming up with a story that really justifies coming back one to one of the great science-fiction stories. A lot of filmmakers have borrowed from Blade Runner in the intervening years, and we want to make sure we don't look like we're borrowing from the movies that borrowed from it. Coming up with something original on our part is a real threshold issue. We know there are tremendous challenges here."
Still, there is more news out there. Deadline has revealed that Hampton Fancher is being asked to pen the script for the Blade Runner follow-up. Confirming that it's a sequel to the first film, and set "several years after the original", Deadline also suggests that this is indeed a project that Scott is looking to direct himself. After The Counselor, then?
Fancher was on scripting duties for the original film, too, although it sounds like Blade Runner 2 (or whatever it ends up being called) is some way off, if it's still in the early writing stages. More on it as we get it.
A new UK trailer for director Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper movie Magic Mike has gone online. The film is loosely based on star Channing Tatum’s days as a stripper, and the actor plays a mentor to a young “exotic dancer” played by Alex Pettyfer. Most of the first trailer focused squarely on Tatum’s character and his furniture-making skills, but this trailer shows us a lot more of the mentor/mentee relationship. We also get some new looks at Matthew McConaughey, who is pitch-perfect as the nightclub’s ringleader. I’m always down for a new Soderbergh project, and I’m eager to find out what he saw in Tatum’s story that he thought would make a great movie.
The film also stars Riley Keough, Olivia Munn, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Cody Horn, and Adam Rodriguez.
Here’s the synopsis for Magic Mike:
To a rebellious 19-year-old kid (Pettyfer) looking for independence from his family, Magic Mike (Tatum) seems like the perfect role model: he’s got a nice car, a nice apartment, and a seemingly endless supply of women. What’s his secret? He’s a male stripper, and when the kid dives headlong into Magic Mike’s world, his mad dancing skills and hunger for excitement make for an unforgettable summer.
Sexy, funny and shocking, this film is a hedonistic thrill ride with a powerful undertow. A razor sharp cast – led by top liner Channing Tatum in a career-defining turn as the titular Magic Mike devours the up-to-the moment freight train of a script, and the result will be relentlessly entertaining and sure to be one of the most talked about films of the year…… and let’s not forget the price-of-admission dancing sequences…
emma Thompson has said she is "so excited" about the modern version of Annie she is writing for Willow Smith.
The Nanny McPhee star confirmed rumours she has written a new version of the classic musical for Will Smith to produce and his daughter to star in, and that rapper Jay-Z is writing the musical score.
Emma said: "I'm writing a modern version of Annie for Willow to play, which I'm so excited about because Jay-Z is going to do the music - Oh my God I'm so modern! So I am very thrilled about that."
The British actress stars with Will in Men In Black 3 as Agent O, head of the MIB. She revealed she was asked to play the role as she and Will are such good friends.
Emma said: "I know Will from before because I did a little bit on I Am Legend and I got on very well with him and I love his manager too."
The Oscar-winning actress has already written the screenplays for Sense And Sensibility and the Nanny McPhee films.
Jay-Z previously sampled one of the signature songs from the original Annie for Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem).
Zooey Deschanel was “really shy” as a teenager.
The quirky actress didn’t have a boyfriend until she was in her late teens, partly because she didn’t know how to approach the opposite sex.
The brunette beauty jokingly blamed lazy Californian boys and her love of the theatre for the lack of romance in her adolescent years.
“I had my first boyfriend when I was 19. Before that, my life was all about theatre. The fact that I was really shy didn't help either. The boys in California are not the most proactive ones. They’d rather wait to be approached by a girl than make the first move – and I was never good at that [laughs]," she told German magazine Joy.
Zooey inherited her love of entertaining from her parents. The New Girl star wanted to become an actress from a young age but her family made her wait until she was older.
"My parents are both in the film business – my dad is a cameraman and my mom is an actress. I wanted to be an actress when I was still a child, but my parents thought it was too early,” she said. “So they sent me off to singing and acting lessons when I was at school. I also performed in my school's musicals and theatre plays. At 17, I got a contract at an agency.”
King Kong star Naomi Watts said she is "absolutely terrified" to play the role of Princess Diana in a new film portraying the last two years of her life.
Caught in Flight is set to explore Diana's relationship with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan and her tragic death in August 1997.
Watts said: "She is a part of our history, an incredible woman and fascinating but a tragic ending. The filmmakers came to me and it's a good script and it's very scary and I kind of wanted to say no but I couldn't."
The British-born actress said she grew up watching Diana and taking on the new role will be "tough".
"I saw the wedding and everything and she is a very inspiring woman and it's kind of impressive how she sort of changed the whole gearing of the tradition of the royal family and opened it up and brought warmth to it.
"Now I'm doing all the research and there is so much to read, I just hope we make a good film and people can learn something new about her that's interesting. There are a lot of people that knew her and a lot of books to read and so much information and one story is different to the next so it's hard to gauge what was the truth. It's going to be a tough one, it's a big beast to take on, I just try to do my best."
Caught in Flight will be filmed in the UK later this year and Watts, who has two young sons with actor Liev Schreiber, said she will "always want to work" but knows things will "slow down" as the children get older.
"We will definitely have to slow down and things will change, but they are still really small and the adventures they are experiencing now are pretty amazing. I think they will remember the ride on the elephant when we were shooting in India rather than the blue block stacked on the red block. Those are things that you want your kids to experience, these life adventures and big powerful memories."
The Oscar-nominated actress, speaking as the Cool Harvest ambassador for wine brand Jacob's Creek at the launch event in London, said she would love to work with Scream star Schreiber in the future. "He is a brilliant actor and I'm completely inspired by him so yes I'd love to work with him and it would make life a lot easier."
The first trailer for the horror film The Possession has gone online. Produced by Sam Raimi, the film centers on a young girl who acquires an antique box at a yard sale, but she’s unaware that the box contains an evil spirit. First of all, if you haven’t been creeped out by the poster yet, take a look here. As for the trailer, let me just say that the film earns positive marks for not following in the found footage genre’s footsteps. The Possession trailer actually plays more like an homage to classic horror films like The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby and Poltergeist rather than any major horror film that’s been produced within the past ten years. It’s also refreshing to see an exploration of the darker side of Jewish folklore (the original film was titled The Dibbuk Box) rather than a rehashing of Catholic mythos. Director Ole Bornedal may well have found a combination of a respectable method of shooting and a capable cast that can restore some faith in the horror genre.
The film stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, and Natasha Calis. The Possession opens on August 31st.
Here’s the synopsis for The Possession:
A young girl buys an antique box at a yard sale, unaware that inside the collectible lives a malicious ancient spirit. The girl’s father teams with his ex-wife to find a way to end the curse upon their child.

When Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green was asked about his plans to make a new film based on Dario Argento 1977 horror classic Suspiria, he said the success of low-budget horrors like Paranormal Activity had made something like Suspiria a tough sell in Hollywood.
Apparently, it wasn too tough of a sell, as the cast of Green Suspiria was announced this week.
Leading the cast of the film is Orphan star Isabelle Fuhrman, who will play Suzie, a young girl who travels to Europe to attend a prestigious school. When her fellow students start dying in horrible fashion, she begins to suspect that all is not as it appears within the halls of the school.
No stranger to creepy horror films, Fuhrman first major role was the lead in 2009 Orphan. In that film, she played a girl with some terrifying secrets who is adopted by a young couple (played by Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard). More recently, Fuhrman played one of the children competing for her life in The Hunger Games.
Fuhrman will be joined on the Suspiria cast by Isabelle Huppert (The Piano Teacher), Janet McTeer (Tideland), Michael Nyqvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and Antje Traue (Pandorum). The script for the film was co-written by Green and Chris Gebert.
Argento original film was known for its graphic visual imagery and moody, suspenseful tone, and is one of the award-winning Italian filmmaker best-known projects.
The announcement of the film cast comes just before the start of this year Cannes Film Festival, and the timing is quite intentional. The film producers are looking to sell the film at this year festival.
Filming on Suspiria is scheduled to begin this September
